Almost everywhere I go in NYC I am tempted by the luring smell of pizza. You know what I’m talking about. The ooey, gooey, cheesy thin crust slices sold in $1 pizza shops on every corner. This New York-style pizza is often sold in wide slices to go. How does one not eat pizza everyday? New Yorkers must have pretty good self control, or they really know how to make a good slice.
Although I like going out for a pizza, the one thing I dislike about going out is that it tends to be way too greasy and way too cheesy. As someone who loves pizza, (see here, and here) but tries to cut back on the fat and carbs, we decided to make our own whole grain pizza at home last night.
Let’s just say that this may be a weekly staple. But first, let’s set the table.
Homemade New York Style Pizza
Ingredients:
- whole grain pizza dough (spread out thin)
- homemade (or store bought) pizza sauce
- tomatoes
- mozzarella
- basil
- red peppers
- extra greens
Directions:
Spread the whole grain dough out thin, add some red sauce, your favorite toppings, and pop in the oven for about 20-30 minutes. Don’t forget to put some cooking spray or oil on the pizza stone or baking sheet.
What are your dinner plans this weekend? Why don’t you stay in, open up a bottle of red, and make this delicious pizza? 😉
Love always,
Elizabeth Kate
